Red, White, + PIE!

Hello Pizzazzerie fans!  I am thrilled to be here on Pizzazzerie today filling in while Courtney is relaxing on a beach and soaking up the sun on her honeymoon.

Today I’m sharing a little red, white and blue inspiration for your next 4th of July celebration. When I think about July 4th I’m drawn to the idea of old fashioned celebrations, parades, sparklers and of course pie!  So I decided to create a Red, White and Pie 4th of July celebration.

Red, White and Pie Party

The inspiration for this party was of course the 4th of July red, white and blue, but I also wanted to capture the essence of an old fashioned celebration in the park complete with homemade ice cream, boxed lunches, carnival games and of course lots and lots of pie!

I used my mom’s old wooden ironing board and my childhood kitchen cupboard to display the desserts. I served a variety of homemade and store bought pies.  There were full size cherry, apple, peach  and triple berry pies for guest to enjoy.  As well as mini cherry, apple and blueberry pies.

I used an old family recipe and made blueberry tassies with a dollop of whipped cream.  And for another vareity of pie my mom helped me make sweet cherry turnovers.

You can’t have pie without ice cream and nothing beats homemade ice cream.  I remember rolling the tin can at family reunions to make sweet, creamy vanilla ice cream and thought it would not only be a fun activity for the kids, but the perfect compliment to our sweet desserts.  I used small ice cream cups and wooden spoons to serve the ice cream.

We packed a picnic lunch and placed each one in small boxes I embellished with scrapbook paper, 4th of July tags and each person’s name.

To top of the celebration I planned fun games and activities for the kids, including a pie eating contest, tug-o-war, ring toss and “Knock Em’ Down” ball toss.

Do from Piggy Bank Parties created the sweetest little pie favor box for our guest to pack up a slice of pie before heading home.

My family had lots of fun at this little Red, White and Pie celebration and I hope you enjoyed it too!
