Serving up Southern Food at your Celebrations!

GUEST POST by SOUTHERN WEDDINGS MAG

Hey, y’all! We’re so happy to be at Pizzazzerie today sharing some of our favorite ways to incorporate Southern food into your celebrations! Over at our blog, we love seeing the creative ways Southern brides include – and sometimes dress up! – their favorite down-home fixin’s in their big days. We think this goes for parties of all sorts, too!

Let’s start with something refreshing! A gorgeous drink display is a great way to get any party off on the right foot. We’ve all seen mason jars before, but how about stacking the smallest size into a pyramid and filling them with champagne punch? We love this play on the classic champagne fountain.

For a more casual get together, how about setting out simple carafes of sweet tea and lemonade? That way, guests will feel comfortable helping themselves.

Also fun: bringing back the old-school punch bowl with more sophisticated flavors. Our friend Summer styled these photos for us, and she also posted some yummy-sounding recipes on her blog.

Y’all know Southerners are serious about their food, so it’s best not to stray too far from Grandma’s recipes when you’re thinking about serving the classics. However, we love to get creative with presentation, and switching things up can really make
an impression on guests! For example, whip up your favorite BBQ recipe, but serve it in individual portions in mini mason jars:

Anything interactive is always a hit with guests, which is one reason why we love the biscuit bar. Set out some fresh-baked biscuits (or pick some up from Bojangles – we won’t tell!) then add a variety of jams, honeys, and jellies.

One of the more unusual flavor combinations in the South is chicken and waffles. Cru Catering put together this miniature version for one of our photo shoots, and we fell in love! These delicious bites wouldn’t be too hard to put together at home, either.

Now for a sweet send-off! For a healthy twist, we love these watermelon slices set off with individual flags. Too cute!

Banana pudding is a perennial favorite anywhere below the Mason Dixon Line, and these individual shot glass servings mean you don’t have to share.

Finally, how would this be a post about Southern eats without a mention of red velvet cake? Bake up a tiered beauty or fill a mason jar for each guest. These would be perfect as take-home favors, too!

Planning the Big Day: The Best Fiancé Slacker! Ok, there I said it, I know I haven’t posted anything in ages, but I blame it on this crazy wedding planning! As any of you who have also done so know, no matter how many events you have planned in your life, there is nothing that compares to putting together your OWN WEDDING. It’s insane. Beachside weddings are a favorite of mine. Beach weddings are full of romance and this wedding is no different. Alex and Aileen planned their destination wedding all the way from Hong Kong! I'm having a hard enough time planning my own wedding in the same city I'll wed so I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to design this gorgeous blush pink beachside soiree from overseas! { Continue Reading }
