Happy Weekend, more importantly… Happy FATHER’S DAY WEEKEND! I don’t know about you, but Father’s Day weekend around here means lots of family and delicious recipes. I absolutely love smoked meats but, I’ve never had a smoker so I’ve always stuck to grilling. When offered the chance to review (and GIVEAWAY – keep reading) the Masterbuilt Digital Electric Smokehouse, I was ecstatic! What a fabulous Father’s Day Gift (or anytime gift for Dad)! I know my family will love having this for years.

This weekend, I’m spending Father’s Day with my in-laws who also love good smoked meat so we have brisket that already has our mouth watering…! You’ll see their cute puppy, “Mick”, in the picture of my smoker above. He is very intrigued by all the talk of smoked meats. I love that it’s electric, too! It has wheels so it’s easy to wheel around the deck. Super easy!

I also received (and also giving away – woohoo) John McLemore’s books “Dadgum! That’s Good“and “Dadgum! That’s Good, Too!” that are made for the Masterbuilt Smoker. I have already marked about a dozen or two recipes to try this summer. They look seriously delicious. Think of Fall Tailgating and the holidays too? Smoked turkey, anyone? Mmmm…!!

I’m excited to share a recipe with you, too! This is for Smoked Pork Butt which would be perfect for making sandwiches or eating with some delicious side dishes (like smoked potato casserole – yum).

Recipe for How to Smoke Pork!

Smoked Pork Butt

Ingredients

  • 7 lbs Fresh pork butt
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ¼ cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Chili Powder

Instructions

  1. Mix ingredients and rub onto pork butt.
  2. Cook pork butt for 5 hours in 225 degree pre heated smoker using apple wood chips during the first 3 hours.
  3. After 5 hours remove butt and wrap in heavy foil.
  4. Cook for an additional 1 to 1 ½ hours. Internal temperature should be 160 degrees. Serve.

    Brian would lose his mind if we were to win. He has Myron Mixon’s bbq cookbook so I’m assuming he’d make something from it, and talk in Myron Mixon voice the entire time. PS: Those photos are oh so yummy!!!

    I would love for my husband to have a new Electric Smoker, I believe the one he has now was invented by Tesla. It still smokes well, but I can see through it in places. First thing to smoke, would be “Trout”…nothing like it!

    The hubby has always wanted a smoker. I think he would make jerky with some wild game first. I would make a pork loin. Delicious!

    My brother who lives in Texas always makes smoked turkey and I have alwatys wanted to do that, so that is probably what I would do.
