Labor Day Party Inspiration

Happy Labor Day weekend! I hope you all are taking a chance to sit back, relax, and not do any “labor’! I’m headed down to Alabama to enjoy my first Auburn football game experience. Will certainly be finding lots of tailgating inspiration for a large tailgate I’m hosting next weekend!

Marie Dannettelle, my sweet friend of Sweets Indeed, shared these fabulous patriotic ideas that are perfect for an end-of-summer Labor Day party!

Marie and the Sweets Indeed team blow us away with all of their fabulous designs. They are absolute works of art!  We loved learning a few tips from this celebration, but these tips are great for all types of parties too!

Marie’s tips….

  • Bevmo is a fabulous place to find a huge selection of soda pop’s and vintage glass bottled drinks. It’s a rainbow of fizz!
  • The dessert and beverage stations were created for Jeni Maus (owner of Found Vintage Rentals) and her husband Joel (owner of Studio EMP)’s annual 4th of July party. All of the props and vintage decor are from Found Vintage Rentals. www.vintage-rentals.com
  • Doughnuts are an easy, fun, delicious way to spruce up any dessert station. We used glazed donuts, sliced them 3/4 of the way through (not all the way through or they fall apart) and filled them with fresh strawberries mixed in a strawberry glaze. You can do this with any flavor donut and any flavor glaze. We’ve even used raspberry jelly and fresh raspberries. The toppers are tongue depressors with wooden star cutouts. We painted the stars blue and sprinkled glitter on them, then glued them on. ;-)
  • The dark blue cake stands were handmade. You can find wooden candlesticks at Michaels. Prime, then spray paint or use wood paint to cover them and find a fun plate (from the thrift store even) to glue on. We love gorilla glue. Works on everything. We use wooden candlesticks if we need to create a custom color shade.
  • We used our own laser printer to print directly on paper bags that we filled with kettle corn. You can print anything!!! I would line these with wax paper first as the popcorn grease tends to soak through.
  • We handcrafted the large paper rosettes out of scrapbook paper. Here are easy DIY instructions!  The smaller ones were purchased from Little Pumpkin Papers on etsy. When we do not have the time to hand craft everything ourselves, we turn to etsy. We LOVE etsy.
  • Our graphic designer does a lot of our custom branding and helped us create the whole “Sweet Liberty” motif seen throughout. We purchased some printable’s from House of 3 and he tweaked them into the final designs.
  • We made the chocolate dipped rice krispie pops. The mason jar desserts are from Vanilla Bake Shop and the rest we had custom made from Sweet and Saucy Shop. My favorite? The dipped marshmallows that were written on. I had originally created this idea for our Princess party but couldn’t wait to use it. I think it’s a great way to personalize anything from wafer cookies, marshmallows, chocolate bars, whoopie pies, etc. You can use melted chocolate in a squeeze tube, royal icing, or an edible pen.
  • The Star topped Sweet Skewers are a Sweets Indeed original. :)”

And I would like to add that I have seen these sweet skewers myself, they are TOO cute and delicious!

Don’t forget to use fabulous vintage pieces to really make your party pop! All of the furniture/prop pieces are from Found Vintage Rentals. They have an amazing variety of fabulous items that can be used for weddings, showers, photo shoots, etc. The possibilities are endless.
