How to Make Cupcake Truffles

Though I am much more of a small, gift store type of person, there are occasions when one must enter a Wal-Mart. A search for gold glittered letters I had previously seen there was today’s occasion to enter the mega-store. Though I didn’t have luck with the letters, I did run across these cuties – Cupcake Truffles. I about died. Love. Had to show ya’ll!

Rich chocolate with a smooth center and a dollop of frosting on top. Sprinkle with Christmas colored nonpareils and you have quite a cute “cupcake truffle“. I like to make my own creations once I get an idea like this so here is how to make your own cupcake truffles!

Chocolate Truffle Cupcakes

3 cups (18 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips (my vote is Ghiradelli)
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
1 tablespoon vanilla or desired liqueur

Melt the chocolate chips with the condensed milk in a heavy sauce pan. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla. Then chill 3 hours in the refrigerator. Next, place a 1-inch ball of chocolate truffle into a mini muffin pan (or shape with your hands by flattening the top and bottom). Next, with your favorite vanilla buttercream recipe (I suggest this quick one from Food Network), pipe a small dollop of buttercream frosting atop the truffle.

Add pizzazz (haha – hadn’t added that word in lately) by sprinkling with colored nonpareils, coconut, chocolate shavings, nuts, or whatever your heart desires! Enjoy! Try lots of combinations like chocolate/chocolate or white chocolate/vanilla.
