Candy Making For Kids: SAMPLE RECIPE!

With Halloween on the horizon, I thought it would be fun to share a sample recipe from my latest book CANDY MAKING FOR KIDS! It’s really fun to eat candy, right? But try making the candy, spending time in the kitchen with your kids, and truly making a memory out of the “sweet” treats! That’s why I love this book! It encourages kids to stretch their imagination in the kitchen with candy (but not the hot sugar kind that requires a candy thermometer). This candy is easy, sweet, and fun!

Halloween Candy Making For Kids by Courtney Whitmore of Pizzazzerie

Makes 50-60 Candy Corn

1(10-ounce) bag miniature marshmallows
1-1/2 pounds powdered sugar (confectioner’s sugar)
1/4 cup shortening (not butter flavored)
yellow + red food coloring

1. Melt entire bag of marshmallows with 3 tablespoons of water in a microwavable bowl in 30-second intervals until completely smooth.
2. Stir in 3 cups powdered sugar until dough begins to form.
3. Rub hands over shortening and begin to knead the marshmallow fondant. Powder a flat surface with powdered sugar. Knead fondant on flat surface and continue to add remaining powdered sugar until smooth and not sticky.
4. Divide into 3 balls (small, medium, large). Flatten large ball and add yellow food coloring. Roll and knead until the coloring spreads evenly across ball.
5. Repeat with second ball (medium) and a combination of yellow and red food coloring to create orange.
6. Roll balls into rectangular shapes and lay side by side. Press together the layers and roll if needed to desired thin-ness. Cut into triangles!

SWEET TIP: Vary the colors for other holidays such as pink for Valentine’s Day (or a pink-o-ween party!) or green for St. Patrick’s Day!

Pick up my book in stores or online at Amazon or Barnes & Noble for even more candy recipes for birthdays, holidays, and all occasions!

P.S. If you’re in the DENVER area I’ll be at Swoozie’s on September 29th from 2-4 with free goodie bags for all, sample recipes from my books, signing books, Q&A, + more! Click here to RSVP!
