Rainy Day Party in a Box {Free Printables}

Rainy Day Party in a Box - Free printables, lots of tips for what to include! Great summer activity!

Hey, Pizzazzerie readers!  It’s Cara from One Swell Studio.

The school year is slowly dwindling to the end and if you have school-age kiddos, you might be wondering “What in the world am I going to do to keep them entertained this summer!?”  (I know I am, at least!)  When the weather is beautiful & the sun is shining, playing outside is always an option.  There are endless possibilities of outdoor actives that can keep kids entertained for hours upon end.

But what happens on those dreary, rainy, stormy days?  Those days when you hear, “I’m bored,” more times than you care to recall?  Those days when everyone’s ready to throw a fit?  I say, throw a party instead!

I created a Rainy Day Survival Kit that’s a “Party in a Box” for my boys and I to celebrate with this summer.  Everything inside is sure to make even the rainiest of days a little bit brighter.  And I (almost!) can’t wait until a rainy day catches us off guard so that I can bust out this box and we can turn a dreary day into a cheery day.

  • a large-ish box
  • paper plates, napkins & cups
  • decorative straws
  • treat cups or small favor boxes
  • party blowers
  • balloons
  • snacks your kids love (I opted for Teddy Grahams, Lemonheads & Mini Oreos– my boy go crazy for them AND they matched my color scheme)
  • bottled drinks
  • paint
  • a bottle of glue
  • colored & white paper/cardstock
  • scissors
  • a box of crayons
  • free printable “Rainy Day” downloads

By finding these items at Michael’s, Dollar Tree, & Target, (and grabbing a few things I had around the house) I spent less than $30 for everything… and I have quite a few packages of snacks and some drinks left over to use in the meantime.

I coordinated all of my items to coordinate.  I used blue and yellow since it reminded me of blue skies and sunshine (something I’d LOVE to see on any rainy day).

I quickly wrapped the apple juice drink bottles with some blue paper to tie in my theme and make even the beverages a little bit more cheerful.  You can download the free “Rainy Day” printables below.  I designed 2-inch party circles that can be used as cupcake toppers, napkin ring or juice box decorations, etc.  I also created a label for the outside of the box to fancy it up a bit.

I didn’t let my boys see me putting this little kit together.  I’m so excited to surprise them with a miniature party for no reason (well, except that it’s raining).  I wrapped everything up inside the box & stowed it away for safe keeping until a summer storm comes our way.

You could absolutely change the colors and theme to fit just about any of your child’s favorite snacks or activities.  If you’d make a Party in a Box, I’d love to see your photos.
