DIY Trimmed Cloth Napkins
One of my favorite ways to add a unique touch to a tablescape is by adding trim to simple cloth napkins! Learn how to make your own DIY trimmed cloth napkins below…

I absolutely ADORE this simple DIY for cloth napkins. It jazzes up any tablescape and you can tailor it to your color scheme!
They’re simple to make, no sewing machine required. You can choose your own napkins and trim so it will match your color scheme, and most fabric stores have tons of trim options from fringe and tassel to pom-pom!
I hope this video gives you a glimpse into just how easy it is to make these napkins. It’s truly as simple as it looks. Fabric glue is magical, friends.
While I did choose a bold pink for mine, you can always go with a basic white if you’re just trying out some designs. White goes with everything.
Same on same does look great as well so be on the lookout for fun colored napkins when you’re out and about.

Can you wash DIY trim cloth napkins?
Yes! Be sure to read the instructions on your specific fabric glue, but I have had no trouble when washing mine after 24 hours on delicate.
That’s so important with cloth napkins because you want your guests to actually feel comfortable using them. You can wash them and the trim will not budge.
The fabric glue I used is called Fabric Fusion. You can usually find it at any craft or sewing store, or grab it here on Amazon. It’s easy to use!

They look beautiful but how in the world will those napkins be washed????The tassels will get ruined!
Vinnie, glad you asked! I did was them, on delicate, and they look 100% fine. The tassels look just like they did before. I suggest line drying (as I do with all decorative fabrics) but I happened to one run through the dryer on low and it was also fine. Thanks for your comment!
Vinnie, for napkins these nice, fun and special, I seriously wouldn’t mind washing them by hand and hanging them to dry. I kind of like working with napkins in this wayâ ironing them and everything since they’re not too big. I’m probably the only one in this world, though. HA! It does look like a washing machine may be too harsh on the trim, so consider other washing methods. LOVE the idea and would certainly recreate the look with a chic monochromatic twist to it utilizing a neutral color palette. The tone-on-tone look could make them work for more than a festive occasion. I’m thinking a soft ivory or cream for the linen napkins, with the same colored tassel trim three shades darker, maybe in a goldfish color. I can already envision how gorgeous these would look at a summer party tablescape <3

Hi Wardie, I got it at a local shop here in Nashville called The Fabric House. I’m not certain on the exact material but my guess is cotton.
Very cool, because I really like to do something with my own hands, and my chef, I think that it would be a great gift for her with her own hands for a holiday, since she loves handmade gifts, and even her dishes would look cool in the pictures ! I really liked this idea. I just think I’ll change the colors and want to take a thinner fabric. Thank you very much for this idea, I think not only I liked it. And by the way, children will definitely use such napkins and will not be glamorous at the table! Cool!
