Key to My Heart: Winter White Picnic

I was part of a fabulous design challenge over on A Subtle Revelry (formerly City Cradle). There were 4 participants. I chose a winter white picnic + key to my heart theme to match the design challenge theme of “so fresh+ so clean“. Nashville has had LOTS of snow so I have been used to the “winter white” look around here.

If you love this design, I’d love your vote – just leave a comment over on this post on A Subtle Revelry!

When I think of fresh and clean, I immediately think of winter white! That gorgeous ivory hue reminds me of newly fallen snow. I knew I wanted to incorporate ivory, cream, and white so I decided on a simple yet elegant winter picnic. Snuggling up with your loved on around Valentine’s Day with hot cocoa, sweet treats, and luxurious blankets.

Mini dark chocolate cups filled with marshmallows and hoc cocoa were served along with coconut truffles and petit fours from A Perfect Bite in Nashville, TN. These petit fours are absolutely to die for and just melt in your mouth. They went perfectly with the color scheme and the extra glittered crystals added an extra sparkle. Local Nashville chocolate was served along with heart shaped mini marshmallows. Small “mints” were added to give the hot cocoa a fresh mint flavor!

Keys were a subtle theme throughout the picnic shoot, hung alongside the fence and scattered throughout the design. Keys have such an old, vintage romantic feel which was intriguing to mix with a “fresh and clean” theme.

The main DIY element was a vintage inspired tray perfect for holding treats and mugs at a picnic. It’s hard to balance your plate and drinks in the grass at a picnic so this tray is perfect for personalizing to your theme or event.

Materials Needed: Unfinished wooden tray, wooden trimming, ivory and white spraypaint, glue gun, scissors, lace, heart ribbon, mini saw

What to Do: You can certainly use any colors you like but for this vintage-inspired look, I sprayed the tray ivory. Then I sprayed the scalloped trip white and attached it to the long ends of the tray for a bit of added charm.

I then cut a yard of white lace to fit down inside the tray and adhered with a bit of hot glue. Last, an ivory heart ribbon was added to the sides of the tray. In just a matter of minutes, it was simple to take a few materials from the craft store and turn them into a vintage-inspired tray perfect for a winter white picnic or any occasion!
