A Kentucky Derby Themed Birthday Party

Kentucky Derby Themed Birthday

With the Kentucky Derby just a couple of short weeks away, it’s time to prep our mint juleps and get inspired! Angela Marie Events shared this darling Kentucky Derby Themed Birthday Party for her sweet little boy, and I just had to share it with you! It took place at the most gorgeous southern setting, the White Magnolia in Kentwood, Louisiana. I adore the unique theme, and the gorgeous details.
The White Magnolia was the perfect backdrop for my son’s first birthday. The theme was Kentucky Derby with baby touch using an antique rocking horse. Everyone came in their Sunday best, in hats and seersucker. The invitation had an attire’s card explaining the traditional Kentucky Derby attire, so that everyone would be dressed to the nines!

Angela shared more party details with us…

“The kids had a blast riding and feeding ponies, with monogrammed blankets from Lemons and Paisley. They later “ran the race” with handmade stick horses from My Lue on Etsy. The winners received a trophy of red roses, of course, but these were sugar cookies from Silly Gilly Desserts. The weather was a little overcast, but after lunch everyone was able to go outside on the lawn and enjoy games while enjoying their southern sip. After voting was all in, we awarded a couple best dressed with custom ribbons and a rose bouquet!

Guests enjoyed a traditional derby lunch catered by City Pork, serving a couchon de lait, ground grits, deviled eggs, crackin, Derby pies, and bourbon balls. Deckert’s cake was a beautiful 3 tier seersucker cake by Melissa’s Fine Pastries out of New Orleans. The cake was delicate and light in taste. It was double chocolate mousse with fresh raspberries. Heaven on a plate. With a beautiful water-colored horse on top.

Poppy and Mint designed all the gorgeous florals and Lovegood Rentals helped us fancy up a bit with beautiful vintage furniture! Proper prints designed all of our wooden signs throughout the party, which were a perfect touch.

The music made the afternoon- the brass band really set the mood and Deckert loved dancing to the music,. He wasn’t too keen on his cake, but he was all smiles on his first birthday! He loved the ponies and games, and couldn’t get enough of that good ole southern sound!”
