Children’s Gingerbread House Decorating Party

Gingerbread houses were a memorable part of my childhood and a wonderful tradition during the holiday season. Earlier, we showed you instructions for making 3 different types of gingerbread houses. Today, we want to share with you inspiration for hosting a children’s gingerbread house decorating party!

PARTY TIPS: Build the bases of the houses so that work is already done. Set each house on a sturdy plate so each child can transport them home once decorated. Provide a fun assortment of candies (m&ms, ribbon candy, peppermints, candy canes, red hots, etc) as well as other fun decorations (ribbon for topping, figurines, etc).

Make several batches of royal icing (recipe in previous post) ahead of time and most of the work is done! Another tip is to use a fun patterned wrapping paper along the top of your table so that any fallen icing and candy can easily be cleaned up.

Turn on some festive tunes and let the kids get decorating! It is amazing to see how each child creates something unique and beautiful. They save really well too – just store them in an airtight container. I still have a gingerbread house I made as a child!

Love (L-O-V-E!) this party! I host a Christmas Movie Marathon Day every year and we usually make a Gingerbread House or two, it’s a great tradition ;) A shortcut I’ve used in the past is to use Graham Crackers to construct houses for the little guests…super quick and easy.
