Planning the Big Day: Engagement Photos

I admit it, I am one of those people who absolutely hates how she looks in photographs…well, maybe ‘hate’ is a strong word, but lets just say I’m usually the one making horrified noises whenever I see a picture of myself. So, needless to say I was less than excited to choose a photographer for my wedding. I was petrified that I’d end up with a bunch of shots that I couldn’t stand, of the happiest day of my life!

So, we started looking for a photographer early, I knew a lot of great folks in the business but many were unavailable or just way out of our price range. I was beginning to think I’d have to have happy-snap cameras on all of my tables to cover the day, when we were introduced by a mutual friend to Erik Matey (yay!). You probably know by now that I have some high standards when it comes to my wedding day and obviously photos are no exception, but when we checked out Erik’s website we were thrilled- not only did all of his brides look beautiful, but they looked happy, natural and un-posed (I don’t do posing haha).

After meeting with Erik, we were convinced he’d be the best person to document our special day, and the first test was our engagement photo shoot…! Tom and I met during a Relay for Life event for the American Cancer Society, so we thought the site for that day (Hoboken) would be the perfect place to shoot. We had a great time! Just an hour or so of being ourselves and acting natural resulted in some of the best photos I have ever seen of us!

What a relief! Haha…Erik performed close to a miracle by managing to get shots of me that I actually like!! And now we are so excited about the photos from the big day : ) Believe me guys, DO NOT settle when it comes to your photographer….you will be so happy when you can share the beautiful images of yourselves with all your friends and family…we surely are!
