11 Creative Uses for Edible Flowers

Creative Uses for Edible FlowersNow that we’re well into spring and Mother’s Day is right around the corner, let’s talk FLOWERS! Now we usually chat about vases and centerpieces when it comes to flowers, but one of my absolute favorite ways to use flowers is in food & drinks! That’s right, there are edible flowers that add the perfect pop of color and garnish to your treats. Flowers can completely transform a white store-bought cake or add a fancy finish to a simple cocktail. You know I love to share easy entertaining tips, and this is one of my favorite! Let’s take a look at a few ways edible flowers can make all the difference…

11 Creative Uses for Edible Flowers

Aimee of Twigg Studios blew me away with her flowerfetti cake! It has flowers inside to create a “natural funfetti” that is absolutely gorgeous! If you want to recreate the look but aren’t in the baking mood, order a plain store-bought cake and decorate away!

Creative Uses for Edible Flowers

I could just stare at Harvest & Honey’s gorgeous wildflower salad all day long. It just reminds me of a dreamy garden party that I’d love to attend. She used violets and pansies to create her gorgeous display. Get the recipe and more tips here!

Sweet Georgia Peach Smash | Bourbon Cocktail

These pretty pink flowers are called “Sweet Williams” and they were a lucky find at the Kroger down the street. I kid you not. Sometimes you just need a tiny little touch of fancy on a cocktail to make it party-worthy! Get my recipe for these Sweet Georgia Peach Smashes!

Creative Uses for Edible Flowers

With the weather heating up, I’ve pulled out the popsicle maker for toddler, but also…. for me! Look at these gorgeous spring flower popsicles. Wouldn’t they be the perfect “sweet” finish to a bridal or baby shower in the spring or summer? Marla Meredith is a fave to follow, so go check out more on these flower popsicles!

Edible Flower Macarons, Creative Uses for Edible Flowers

My friend Lexy over on Proper always uses edible flowers in the most creative ways! I love her edible flower macarons. Package these up as favors at a party or put on display on a pretty cake stand.

Creative Uses for Edible Flowers

Have you ever seen a more beautiful champagne bucket? Truly, the floral ice cubes turn a simple champagne setup into one of the most gorgeous details of this bridal shower featured over on the Honeybee by Andee Layne! I’m fairly certain all my summer parties will now have floral ice cubes!

Creative Uses for Edible Flowers

The always inspiring Martha Stewart shares the recipe for these simple Lillet Rose Spring Cocktails. One floating flower is all a drink needs to instantly transform it into an instagram-worthy cocktail.

Edible Flowers, Creative Uses for Edible Flowers

Up the ante on simple mini lemon loaves with edible flowers that have been sugared to make them even sweeter! I love sugaring flowers and you might even find a few uses for sugared flowers in my entertaining book out this fall!

Creative Uses for Edible Flowers

Give your punch bowl that wow factor with edible flowers! My friend Eden over on Sugar & Charm has an amazing post on creating an edible potted floral garden! So if you want to tap into your inner green thumb this summer, hop on over! And don’t miss her recipe for Pineapple and Carrot Gin Punch, pictured above! She’s an edible flower master!

Creative Uses for Edible Flowers

Donuts aren’t just for the kids’ parties! Create stunning donut treats with edible flowers placed right into the glaze like these floral donuts with blood orange and lemon ginger glaze on The Merrythought! How delicious does that sound?! I can just picture these displayed for a pretty party!

Creative Uses for Edible FlowersUse edible flowers in unexpected ways like these delicious little cream cheese and chive sandwiches! Take them to a picnic, package them up for a friend, or stun your next dinner party guests! I love how Buttered Side Up added the touches of edible flowers to these appetizers!

So you might be wondering WHICH flowers are edible and safe to use in your food and drinks. I’ve created a list below of my favorites!

  • violets
  • roses
  • pansies
  • lavender
  • carnations
  • sweet williams
  • lilacs
  • hibiscus
  • marigolds
  • daises
