Christmas Morning Celebration
Christmas morning is the perfect time to gather together before opening presents and enjoy some special treats. Baked french toast makes a warm and sweet morning treat. Decorate your breakfast table with holiday decor like a festive teddy bear. The kids (and adults!) will be in the holiday spirit with the fun, festive ambiance!
Cranberry Juice
Baked French Toast
Fresh Fruit Bowl
Sausage or Bacon
Even the adults will want to sit at this table. A jolly teddy bear will melt your heart and win a grin from everyone. You can give your bear a personal touch by adding one of your children’s old scarves or maybe an old pair of mittens or galoshes. Use a three-inch long piece of gold metallic pipe cleaner to attach one or two jingle bells to each glass and delight in the ringing of the bells. Some people believe that every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings. Memories are the best gifts; make this a Christmas to remember and believe in the magic!
Baked French Toast
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
½ teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon corn starch
1 teaspoon orange zest
1 tablespoon sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla
3 cups whole milk (cream is even better)
6 eggs, room temperature
1 loaf of French bread (day old)
½ cup butter
Combine the nutmeg, cinnamon, corn starch, orange zest, sugar, vanilla, milk, and eggs. Beat until well blended. Pour this mixture into a large glass baking dish. Slice the French bread loaf into four pieces and then split each piece so it can be flattened out in the baking dish. Place the bread pieces in the egg mixture. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and let soak overnight in the refrigerator; however, turn the bread slices once during this time. When ready to cook, remove the bread slices from the dish and place on a baking sheet to drain off excess liquid. Heat a large frying pan over medium heat and add some butter. Place several pieces of the “soaked” bread in the pan and cook until golden brown on both sides for about 3 minutes on each side. Continue this process by adding a little more butter each time until all the bread slices are browned. Place the browned slices on a clean baking sheet and bake at 375 for 20 to 25 minutes. The bread will puff up during baking and become fluffy. Be sure to check the center to make sure it is not runny; if so cook a little longer.
Top with fresh chopped fruit, powdered sugar, and/or syrup. Blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries are good fruits to use. A unique breakfast treat for friends and family you really love!
