My Favorite Thanksgiving Traditions

Set a gorgeous Thanksgiving table and tradition ideas!

Thanksgiving, y’all! It’s finally time to sit back, relax, and eat some of our favorite dishes with those we love! Thanksgiving represents the epitome of tradition, so I was honored when Sister Schubert’s asked me to share a few of my Thanksgiving traditions with you, as well as a little peek into our Thanksgiving tablescape! Now that I’m hosting my own Thanksgiving meals, I’m striving to incorporate special moments and traditional touches into the holiday just like my own Mom did when I was growing up.

My Mom always set a beautiful Thanksgiving tablescape, and this is now a passion we love to create together. We always had a few homemade, DIY elements into the table like gold spray-painted leaves picked from the yard (my daughter loves to help collect them). I love to take photos so we also create personalized place cards by using little photos of each family member placed in a small frame at each place setting. Sometimes we use current photos and sometimes we use baby photos, either way, we all love seeing everyone’s pictures, especially Blakely!

When it comes to food, we are all about the traditional favorites. Serving the same foods to my own family that I enjoyed growing up is something that warms my heart. Food speaks to the soul so you better believe we have our favorites like freshly baked Sister Schubert’s dinner yeast rolls, pumpkin pie, macaroni and cheese, green beans, and mashed potatoes! Of course there is turkey, but I’m all about the extras at Thanksgiving! Sister Schubert’s dinner rolls are made from simple ingredients in a recipe passed down 5 generations. I truly don’t recall a Thanksgiving where we didn’t enjoy Sister Schuber’ts dinner rolls! And if you’ve ever had leftover turkey and cranberry sauce on a Sister Schubert dinner roll, then you have enjoyed our favorite “leftover” Thanksgiving meal! It’s so good! Add in some football-watching and a nap, and you have the best day!

Take a peek into our Thanksgiving traditions with the video below. When you’re done, visit Sister Schubert’s Story to learn more about Sister Schubert’s own tradition story told by Sister Schubert herself!

I’ve put a few tips and ideas from my own Thanksgiving table with you below!

  • Purple isn’t a color you often see at Thanksgiving, but it’s truly a beautiful color to pair with neutral whites, beiges, and golds. Add a pop of color through napkins, glassware, or floral arrangements!
  • Get creative and think outside the box. Purple cabbage is beautiful when added to a floral arrangement of simple greenery. Use extra cloth napkins to fill bread baskets!
  • Add a DIY touch to your place settings by creating your own printed “thankful” signed and tie on to a sprig of fresh rosemary. The room will smell amazing!
  •  Create your own personalized place cards by framing small pictures of your family members and place in front of his or her plate.
  • Spray paint fall leaves in various colors from gold (shown) to white, champagne, or even silver!

I hope you’re inspired to add a few new traditions to your own Thanksgiving celebration this year. Whether it’s serving Sister Schubert’s dinner rolls and personalized place cards or collecting fall leaves with the kids for a touch of glam on your table, I hope you create lots of special memories this Thanksgiving!

XO,
Courtney
