Creative Gift Card Packaging: Gingerbread House!
With Christmas just a few days away, you still might be wondering what to get that person on your list that has everything. I have several folks left still on my holiday shopping list because I truly can’t.think.of.anything! I hate to just purchase something that I know they won’t absolutely love. Gift cards have always been something that receivers love (hello, I can now pick out exactly what I want) but givers hate to give (impersonal, not unique). I’m excited to partner with Target to share a creative and thoughtful way to give a Target GiftCard® this season. With sugar of course…
A little backstory: My Mom is the queen of gingerbread houses. With a late November birthday, I celebrated every year with a gingerbread house decorating party. Obsession with gingerbread houses just runs in the family, I guess you could say. It’s such a cute, homemade holiday decoration that everyone loves to both make and receive! I have a display of several gingerbread houses in the entrance of my home every Christmas season. I give little ones as gifts every year. We even made a pink house for my daughter this year. Placing a Target GiftCard® inside a gingerbread house is the perfect way to give your recipient exactly what he or she might want but all wrapped up in the “sweetest” of packages, don’t ya think?
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
1 Target GiftCard®
1 Gingerbread House Kit (or better yet, make your own! You can use real gingerbread or graham crackers).
2 cups Royal Icing
Candies to decorate (I suggest gum drops, red hots, peppermints, and candy canes)
Whether you use a store-bought kit or make your own, create an “open-end” gingerbread house so you’ll have room to set your gift card inside. Just leave one wall off. Then pipe a small amount of royal icing on the floor/bottom of your house and set your gift card down inside. Now pipe frosting around your house and decorate with candies (the Target holiday candy aisle is full of cute candies that are just asking to become shingles, chimneys, light posts..). Note: I have a previous post here with a recipe for the royal icing and other gingerbread-house-making details!
Isn’t it cute? I couldn’t resist adding some mini mistletoe from the rafters above the card. Love! You can hand deliver this special treat to your friends or family this year! You could also set it down in a large cellophane bag and tie with a bow. I just love the handmade touch to this sweet gift!
We partnered with Target to bring you this slice of holiday cuteness as part of their #GiftCardCheer campaign.
