New Orleans Foodie Trip Recap

A recap of my favorite restaurants and foodie spots in New Orleans, LA!

NOLA Travel Guide

New Orleans Foodie Trip

I promised everyone on Instagram that I would do a little trip recap of my New Orleans visit last week, and here it is! I have been to New Orleans before so I’ve included a few of my other favorite spots in this post as well, but most of this recap was from my recent trip. I was invited down to an influencer dinner for the Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner campaign. My brother (also a food blogger) works quite a bit with the Beef Cattleman’s Association so I got to see him for the events as well!

New Orleans Travel

We stayed at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel right in the heart of the French Quarter. We loved it! They have a quaint courtyard that houses their pool and though it was obviously too cold, I can only imagine how wonderful that would be in the warmer months.

New Orleans Travel Recap

I’ve listed out the places I visited below! We also did a food walking tour of the city so I noted which stops were part of that tour below!

TABLEAU

The influencer dinner was held at Tableau, and it could not have been a more perfect spot. There were courtyards strung with lights and charming touches everywhere you turned. The meal was amazing and featured beef dishes tied in to traditional creole and cajun cooking.

CAFE DU MONDE

Always a stop every time I visit NOLA, they’re famous for their powdered sugar-covered beignets and chicory coffee! They’re also open 24 hours a day so if you feel the late night hunger hit, this is the place to go! It’s in the corner of the French Quarter so everything is very easy to walk to (about a 5 minute walk from the Bourbon Orleans Hotel).

New Orleans Food History Tour

The food history tour we took was the Dr. Gumbo Food History Tour. We loved every stop (I’ve listed them below)! A food tour is such a cool way to get to know a city and I highly recommend it for New Orleans since they’re known for their cuisine. What I loved about the tour was that we were able to try foods from 6 difference places in a matter of a few hours. This is such a great idea if you’re only in the city a couple of days, and you don’t have the time to eat your way through New Orleans!

SOBOU

310 Chartres St, New Orleans, LA 70130
(504) 552-4095

7am-10pm, Daily

The tour kicked off at SoBou. We all grabbed a cocktail and learned quite a bit about the history of New Orleans and the cultures that came to the area to develop the cuisine they have now. Here’s what we got to taste at SoBou!

  • Fried Pork Skins
  • Boudin Balls
  • Apple & Andouille Sausage Beignets with Cinnamon Cream Cheese (picture below – these were my FAVE)

9am-8pm, Sun-Thurs; 9am-9pm, Fri & Sat

NOLA is known for it’s heat in cooking so we tried tons of hot sauce and pepper samples. Then we each got our own sample of one to take home!

LEAH’S PRALINES

714 St Louis St, New Orleans, LA 70130
(504) 523-5662
www.leahspralines.com
10am-6pm, M-Sat; 11am-5pm, Sun
Dishes: Traditional Praline and Bacon Pecan Brittle

Leah’s pralines is a third generation praline shop in New Orleans, and they have tons of sweet treats! We each got to try a traditional praline, but I highly recommend checking out the flavored pralines too! They also have a bacon pecan brittle that is to die for!

NOLA POBOYS

11am-10pm, Sun-Thurs; 11am-2am, Fri-Sat

You can’t come to New Orleans and not try a po’boy! We loved this stop where we all sampled muffulettas and catfish po’boys! If you want to try the original location of muffulettas, head to Central Grocery on Decatur St., but we sure did love these from Nola Poboys! We were basically stuffed at this point, but the tour still had two more stops!

NOLA Muffaletta

TUJAGUE’S

www.tujaguesrestaurant.com
11am-10pm, Mon-Fri; 10am-10pm, Sat-Sun
Dish: Creole Beef Brisket with German Horseradish Sauce

Known as the restaurant where both the grasshopper cocktail and the concept of “brunch” were invited, we took a stop here for Creole Beef Brisket with German Horseradish Sauce! Their bar is incredible (it was brought in from Europe) and it’s right across the street from Cafe Du Monde.

TABLEAU

616 St. Peter St, New Orleans, LA 70116
(504) 934-3463
www.tableaufrenchquarter.com
8am-10pm, Mon-Fri; 10am-11pm, Sat; 10am-10pm, Sun
Dish: Gumbo

Yep, we went to Tableau twice! This Dickie Brennan’s restaurant served us up bowls of seafood gumbo.

I’ve listed out a few other favorite spots below! But I highly encourage you to get “lost” in the French Quarter. Wander down the streets and pop into the charming shops. Bring home some creole seasoning and some beignet mix. ;) You might even wander upon the cutest balloon displays!

MORE NOLA RECOMMENDATIONS

PAT O’BRIEN’S

Every time I go to NOLA, I always stop by Pat O’Brien’s for cocktails and dueling pianos! It is the BEST place. I highly recommend it! Order a hurricane and enjoy the entertainment.

ANTOINE’S

The oldest restaurant in New Orleans, Antoine’s is perfect for a date night!

OCEANA

Ocean can seat large parties (line moves fast), has all the New Orleans favorites, and is very kid-friendly! I went a few years ago with my family and lots of little ones. My brother and I went back again this trip. Order the crab cakes!

SOUTHERN PAWS

33 Toulouse St, New Orleans, LA 70130

My non-food recommendation if you love dogs and cats is Southern Paws! It’s the cutest little shop FULL of adorable toys for animals. My dog George got a cigar, but the champagne was calling my name. Haha!

Hopefully, you’ve found this to be a helpful resource if you’re headed to New Orleans, LA soon! Please don’t hesitate to leave a question or comment below!

    1. Hi Melissa! We loved popping in to all the cute shops in the French Quarter, just wandering up and down the streets. I highly recommend heading to Pat O’Brien’s after dinner for dueling pianos. That’s not necessarily “girly” but it’s so fun!

  2. I’m totally going through NOLA withdrawals this week! I need to go back…like tomorrow. :-) Also, I have indeed heard that Antoine’s is a great date spot. It’s hard to go wrong with so much delicious Cajun food everywhere, though!
