Rainbow Row Birthday Party

To celebrate our daughter’s third birthday, we hosted a charming pastel rainbow-themed party inspired by her love for Charleston’s iconic Rainbow Row.

Charleston Rainbow Row Birthday Party

If you ask my daughter Ivy what her very favorite thing is, she’ll tell you rainbows… quickly followed by “row” as in Rainbow Row, Charleston’s iconic pastel colored row of houses on East Bay Street.

I have the darling children’s book Goodnight Charleston to thank for introducing her to Rainbow Row, and now we drive by it at least once or twice a week. She always grins and points out all the colors as we drive by.

When she asked for a rainbow row cake, we knew the whole party should be themed around Rainbow Row! Plus, our sweet Ivy is a “rainbow baby” so this was an extra special theme for us after years of waiting for her to join our family.

So if you’re hosting a Charleston themed party soon… I hope you’ll find some ideas!

Check out the list of sources at the end of the post for links to the specific items in the party! If I have missed any that you have questions about, please leave me a comment below!

Both my daughters adored the rainbow balloon arch in the dining room, made by Megan of King Party Pants here in Charleston, SC. She’s amazing and we adore the balloons!

Rainbow Row Birthday Party Tablescape

My foundation was a pretty rainbow tablecloth that I know we’ll pull out for various celebrations for years to come! On top I layered on my white chargers (originally from Frontgate) with larger white dinner plates and fun striped rainbow plates that reminded me of the Rainbow Row houses.

On top of each party plate, I layered on a party hat in various pastel rainbow hues, a party horn, and a cute decorated cookie. These cookies were simply adorable, showcasing a medley of rainbow row houses, vibrant rainbows, and other delightful designs.

I adored the pastel rainbow napkins, they were such a fun addition!

The highlight of the tablescape, and my absolute favorite decoration, were the miniature wooden rainbow row houses I placed throughout the table. To add some visual interest, I elevated a few of them using mini cake stands.

These tiny houses are delightful wooden replicas inspired by Charleston’s iconic Rainbow Row houses originally crafted by Sheila in Charleston during the 1990s. Since they are no longer in production, I had to hunt for them on eBay and Etsy. Ivy has already spent hours playing with them since the party!

Charleston Rainbow Row Birthday Cake

I had a rainbow row themed birthday made locally (by Cake My Day) and I love the sweet little rainbow row houses going around the bottom.

I found the cutest Charleston door’s gift wrap on Etsy (linked at end of post) that I wrapped her gifts with and of course, tied them off with big pink bows! It was perfect for a Rainbow Row Birthday Party!
