Magical Carousel Birthday Party

We’re sharing all the sweet details from this magic carousel birthday party!

From the birthday girl’s mom herself: “My inspiration was carousels, I love their whimsy and often beautiful, elaborate details and carvings. So far our little one has ridden at least 15 different carousels in 8 cities. I knew I wanted to have a large carousel horse centerpiece and wanted to use pastel colors. I found two carousel horses on Craigslist one of them already in pastel colors and the other my husband and I ended up painting with spray paint and house paint samples we bought at Home Depot.

I also wanted to use my favorite flowers, roses, peonies, and hydrangeas and they worked really well with the theme and colors. I found some cute carousel clip art online, but nothing I loved so I ended up designing my own and had decided I would make a carousel top dessert table to match the carousel on the invitation. My wonderful sister and brother in law let me use their Silhouette Cameo to cut the invitation wrappers and motifs for the carousel table.

I was really amazed by all of the resources I found online where you can really make whatever you want. For example, after designing the carousel top motifs for the invitation, I was able to email them to an Etsy designer for her to resize and create files for the Cameo to cut for the top of the dessert table carousel.

I found a local printer to increase the size of and print the horses from the invitation onto foam board so that we could use them for the table. My husband used an x-acto knife to cut out the horse shape.

Another DIY element was using Wilton’s Pearl Dust in pink and white to paint the cones holding the cotton candy. I wanted every dessert on the table to have color. I tried using a few other methods but the Pearl Dust was the best option.

Designing my daughter’s dress was so much fun, there was only one dress I found after months of searching that I really loved, and it was $300, so that was not happening. I had an unworn beaded tank top and adult sized headband and already had a design in mind. So I bought some ostrich feathers on Etsy and had someone make the dress for me by cutting up the top and using the headband as a waistband.

Some of the other DIY elements were adding pom poms to her party hat, spray painting an old carousel photo display I found on eBay, and constructing the table centerpiece with bougainvillea vines, spray roses, and floral wire.

The children selected from a menu offered by the country club, grilled chicken, pasta, fish etc. The adults ate antipasto, bruschetta, cheeses, cured meats, olives, dried fruits etc. since the event took place at 2:30pm.

A couple of other fun moments were my daughter singing a simple song she learned at school called “Merry Go Round” for all of the guests, the magician and balloon sculptor entertaining the kids, and the “Come to the Fair: Old Time Carousel Music Vol.1” album playing in the background the entire party provided the perfect ambiance.”
