UP Inspired 1st Birthday!
“I’d like to start off by saying this party was very special to me. I absolutely loved working on this party theme not only because of the obvious (I love parties!) but also because it was specifically designed for my high school friend Taiana’s ( I hosted her bridal shower 2 years prior) first son, Cailen. Taiana expressed her interest in having a party based on the movie UP incorporating the use of the cute Aviator image and came to me for help in bringing it all together to make it work.”
“After some research, I suggested going with an “UP” inspired theme by focusing on elements from the movie instead of making it about the movie and its characters. This was achieved by implementing the use of Clouds placemats, the balloon bundles, maps and airplanes. The color scheme was orange, turquoise blue and white. Taiana, Carlos (her husband) and I worked closely in designing the invitation and printables used on the dessert table and favor bags. The invitations were designed to look like postcards of the map of South America. They had a vintage feel and showed the little aviator standing over “Paradise Falls”.”
The tables were set up with turquoise tablecloths and each held an arrangement of multi colored balloon bundles tied down with pretty orange satin ribbon to a map gift wrapped box. Also found on the tables were handmade clouds placemats embossed with three “flying” orange airplanes. The cake table had a turquoise blue South America map fabric backdrop and a “postcards” handmade birthday banner, a single orange giant balloon and an adorable red ceramic bird.
The cupcakes were displayed on top of vintage looking suitcases. The guestbook was designed to look like an “adventure” journal which held pictures of Cailen that were all laid out similar to the one seen in the movie. The favor bags were nicely displayed on a table with a mini clouds airplane embossed mobile as a backdrop. The Chocolate “Snipe Bar” ( fun name idea Carlos brought up, also inspired by the movie) were a hit at the party. The cake which was designed by another high school friend, Nicole of Dilenas Dolcini, matched perfectly with the theme and tasted delicious.
