A Glimpse Into Our Home
Hi, y’all! I’m sharing a bit about why we fell in love with our home and a few glimpses into our favorite spaces!
Why we fell in love with our home…
One of the many requests I receive via social media messages is to share our home more! I’ve never done a home tour. It’s not for any reason than life is 99 mph and taking full room shots can be daunting, especially with a 4 year old and a dog! Alas, I finally had some time to post about our home, why we love it, and WHY we moved!
We weren’t planning on moving. My husband and I were quite content in our home about 10 minutes away in Nashville. But then one day, I was browsing around at real estate for an area we always thought we might want to move to down the road. Like 5-10 years down the road. And I saw it. THE home! It was a love at first sight situation…well….almost! It was entirely painted black on the inside (a little too dark and creepy for me), but I can see through the need of a good paint job so I asked my best friend (a real estate agent) to let me in the home.
I was actually hoping I would truly hate it so this whole “omg I love this home I saw online” phase would be over. Nope. It was even better in person. I LOVED IT! It had all our “must haves” and wants. It’s in a top school district for the state which was also a huge pull. To my surprise, in a study that Homes.com completed of over 5,000 people, about 20% of people have moved for “love” whether it’s for a spouse’s job or a long distance relationship. I moved for the love of the school district and floor plan, but it was indeed, love at first sight, ha! Interestingly enough, 1/3 of the people who have moved for love have done it more than once (10% moving 3+ times). Crazy, huh?
The floor plan is what I fell in love with the most! My office was upstairs at my old house and while I loved the space, trying to keep a crawling baby and 6 month old puppy from crashing over doggy gates and down the stairs was troublesome. And I found myself going up and down the stairs every 4 seconds to get snacks for the baby, let the dog out, answer the door, get my charger, you name it. I needed an office in the “hub” of the house. And we actually preferred having the master on the same floor as our daughter’s room.
This home has the office right off the side porch and near the front door. It’s perfect! I can work and let the dog outside every 4 minutes, answer the door for packages, and help my daughter open her applesauce all within feet of my office! Hallelujah!
Next, we loved that it had a “built in” mother-in-law suite towards the back of the home. It serves as our guest room (shown two pictures above) but the extra smaller kitchen space is so nice to have for entertaining and extra storage. We painted it Navy this year and added brass hardware and a wine fridge!
The “MIL suite” space has its own garage (also attached to the main house) that we converted into my prop room! The house has a 2 car garage towards the side so it didn’t take too much convincing to let me have the “back, smaller garage” for props! At my old home, I was considering renting a studio space or storage for work props, but I’m so thankful this home had the perfect solution!
Our dining room has had a full redo (painted completely black – ceiling and all) since we moved in, but I love how it has turned out! George loves sitting in the foyer area and keeping “watch” on all the neighborhood happenings!
I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. A lot! So having a kitchen space that was roomy and open was important to me! Our floor plan is “partially open” so there is a large cut-out looking right into the living room. I love it! I plan to change out a few things in the kitchen down the road, but it is definitely one of my favorite spaces in the home.
Blakely’s room is a work in progress, but ALMOST done! She was still in a crib when we moved in so over the past year, we’ve slowly been changing it over to a “big girl” room. I love this space for her!

Never thought we’d move after living in St. Louis for almost twenty years!! Definitely moved for love as we packed up our family (and our entire home in an 18 wheeler) and moved 250 miles East with my hubby’s company. We’ve lived in Louisville area for almost 3 years. ❤️????❤️ It’s been a good move for us and we love our current home.
Wow! That’s amazing and so glad it’s been a good move!
Your home is beautiful! If you don’t mind sharing, where is your dining room table from?
Hi Kim! It’s from a local store, but the manufacturer is Bernhardt and they sell to a few online retailers including Wayfair!
Thank you!
Enjoyed the tour of your beautiful home. We are building a new home which is overwhelming but exciting. I love the chandelier in your dining room. Do you know the manufacturer? Did you purchase it in Nashville?
Hi Kathleen! It’s from King’s Chandelier’s https://www.chandelier.com/
Love every room!!! Could you share your counter height bar stool source … I have been shopping for something similar for weeks!! Thank you!

Your home is so beautiful Courtney! Looking back, I suppose I’ve moved for love twice. My husband and I met on a Geology trip in the north east and st the time, we attended different colleges. Towards the end of the trip, he asked me to be his girlfriend and after that, I lasted one semester at my school and then transferred to his school an hour and a half away. Two years later, we got married and he accepted a job in Cincinnati and so here we are. We’ve now lived in Cincy for 2 years.
Love this story, Kalyn! Thank you for sharing!
Stunning!!!! Can you tell me where you purchased your office chair? Im in love with it!!!!!
Courtney,
I loved everything about your home tour!!!! You know I was always begging you to do the prop room so for you to share your home tour was so amazing.
I love when homes are gorgeous, but also have realistic floor plans too. That’s what seems so special about your home. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you SO much Jenn!! xo

Your home is gorgeous! Can you link Blakely’s rug?

I love your home! So pretty & welcoming. I have always wanted an old home in a small town big enough for friends & family to come stay & play. Well this past July we bit the bullet and bought one in a town of 1,200 to remodel & renovate. It’s about 45 minutes away from our current home & perfect for long weekends & holidays. I have plans to paint our kitchen cabinets navy like you did your second kitchen. Hope mine turn out as pretty!

Where did you find the pink and orange rug in Blakey’s room?
Hi Stacey! I have rug details in this post: https://pizzazzerie.com/courtneys-faves/blakelys-big-girl-room-reveal/
Thank you so much for your response! I’m redoing my 5 year old little girls room and we went with the Lily orange and pink and white buffalo check! Such a fun print. Her room is precious!
