Pops of Gold: Gender Reveal Party!

One of  my best friends is expecting her second child and, I was so lucky to be able to help her celebrate with a gender reveal! Her family and our friends got together to cut the cake, reveal the gender, and celebrate! I hope the Gender Reveal trend continues because it was such a blessing to see all the sweet faces eagerly leaning in to see the color. It was so much fun for everyone. When I knew I’d be decorating for the cake-cutting, I wanted to do something a wee bit different. I added in gold (with the baby pink and baby blue) for some pops of fun throughout the room.

Since I was making the cake (and needed that day to focus on that), I had most of the decorations up prior to the big day. The morning was spent at the doctor with my friend and then back to make the cake. I decided to do a main cake (for my friend and her husband to cut) but also a baby one for their son, Isaac (he was my ring-bearer!) because I wanted him to feel included. He loved being able to be a part of the celebration.

Gender Reveal Party CakePink, Blue, and Gold Baby Gender Reveal The main cake is the larger one – with “baby weeks” on it in gold! My friend JoAnne of Oh Goodie Designs told me about michiemay paperie recently, and I almost fell off my chair (and by chair I mean sofa because I never work at my desk..oops). Everything she makes is utterly fantastic (and she’s about to come out with more amazingness b/c her shop on etsy is currently on hold – but seriously, bookmark it – favorite it – something to remember it!). She made the “baby weeks” gold  as well as the little question mark garland for Isaac’s cake and the big BABY WEEKS garland! You can see some of her past work for an idea of what she creates here. She also had little tiny blue and pink fringe behind the “baby weeks” in gold but I was fussing with it too much and ended up liking it with just the simple gold words. It was fabulous!

Gender Reveal CakesI chose a simple fabric with a sheer overlay and cute white polka dots that I made for the round table. I kept with the pops of gold theme by using a circle punch cutter and gold glittered paper from Michael’s to add some glittery jumbo confetti! As for the cake stands, I had a metallic gray one from HomeGoods (the big one) and I spray painted it gold with this Rust-Oleum Gold Paint. I added some gold fringe with a little ribbon that I found at a craft store – and bam! I was ready to go. The small cake sat on a glass cake stand made from a glass candle holder and little glass plate. I finished it off with a big gold bow to hide any hints of the color underneath (if you do this – set it on a doily so no peaking allowed).

I also framed a picture of the ultrasound in a simple gold frame I found at HomeGoods also. My friend was sent home with this and the “baby weeks” to put in the nursery as she preps for baby’s arrival!

At Party City, I picked up simple pink and blue plates and – I’m not normally a fan of plastic cutlery – but they have a new line that is super chic (in black, clear, and white). I picked up the white.

Plastic cutlery goes chic with this new line! To add some more pizzazz, I reached out to my friend Carmen of The Flair Exchange for some tassel garlands and giant balloon fun! Everyone LOVED the big balloons (I didn’t even inflate them the full way – they get BIGGER – but I also wanted them to be able to fit into my house). I just love them! Carmen creates tassel garlands to hang down from the balloons. This was one of my favorite details.

Big balloons with tassel garland for baby gender reveal! I love how the room came together. I purposefully didn’t do a lot of other desserts, etc because I didn’t want to take away from the simplicity of the cake. I wanted the cake (and mini one) to stand out rather than a large dessert table where everything is darling but gets lost. Everyone ate dinner in the dining room and followed with cutting the cake!

Pink and Blue Gender RevealSo, the time finally came!

It's a BOY! Gender Reveal Party!

It’s a BOY!!!! The Weeks are thrilled to welcome another baby boy and – of course – Isaac is ecstatic to have a baby brother! Congratulations!
