Beef has always been a holiday favorite (have you tried my Beef Wellington Bites?), bringing a warmth and richness to the holiday spreads. There’s just something about a hearty beef appetizer that feels both festive and comforting, making it a go-to choice every holiday season!

What You’ll Need:

ROAST BEEF: The star of the show! The key to this recipe is using good-quality roast beef. Ask the deli counter to slice you thinly sliced, trimmed roast beef.

PUFF PASTRY: Look for frozen puff pastry in the dessert section of your grocery store’s freezer. Usually two puff pastry sheets come in one box.

PROVOLONE CHEESE: You can use deli sliced provolone cheese or shredded provolone cheese, just use the highest quality cheese you can find.

YELLOW ONIONS: The caramelized onions are the icing on the cake for this appetizer. They pack on tons of that favorite French Dip flavor to each bite!

Make-Ahead Tips:

Holiday hosting can be wild! Get some of your prep work done in advance so you can enjoy the festivities with your guests.

  1. Prepare the Caramelized Onions: You can cook the onions a day or two ahead and keep them in the fridge until you’re ready to add them to the pinwheels.
  2. Assemble and Freeze: If you want to get ahead on prep, assemble the pinwheels, roll them, and freeze them unbaked. Just make sure they’re wrapped well in plastic wrap. When you’re ready to bake, let them thaw slightly, apply the egg wash, and pop them in the oven.

Storage Tips:

If you’re lucky enough to have leftovers (doubtful!), store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F until warmed through, so the puff pastry stays crisp!

There are so many delicious ways to enjoy Beef this holiday season, below are a few of my favorites in addition to these French Dip Roast Beef Pinwheels!
