Down south, eating BBQ with all the favorite side dishes (hello coleslaw and pinto beans) is not just for summer barbecues. It’s a way of life. Every gathering from birthday parties to funerals and everything in between is most likely a barbecue affair. That’s why we’ve come to rely on our tried and true homemade recipes. Today, it’s all about coleslaw.
Not only does coleslaw get the ranking of top tier side dish, but it’s also lucky enough to join the barbecue sandwich as a topping. Now we’re talking. Coleslaw plays double duty because it’s so gosh darn delicious. I love to eat it as a side with chicken strips, roast beef, and fried catfish too. I also love to include it in turkey or veggie wraps. Yum! Coleslaw is definitely one of my favorite Southern side dishes.
Homemade Coleslaw
This homemade coleslaw recipe is a traditional one using both mayonnaise as well as vinegar. It’s not too tangy though, it comes out just right! Trust me, once you try this coleslaw, you will not buy it pre-made again. Plus, it’s super easy to make!
This recipe is definitely one to keep in your recipe folder, box, or just your Pinterest board. However you keep your recipes organized! ;) It’s hard, isn’t it? Now that I have a child of my own, I’ve definitely been trying to combine all my family’s favorite recipes so they’re easy to find – and pass down for future generations! This homemade coleslaw, my Mom’s recipe, will definitely be one I pass down to my daughter!
