I’m pretty sure my husband has figured out that the main reason I love going to the movies is the popcorn. There’s just not much better than buttery popcorn and a movie.
We’ve been enjoying more movie nights at home lately (thanks to having a new baby at home) so I’ve been finding fun ways to bring that same movie snacks experience to the living room.
I will say this, it’s not the thrill of a huge screen, but getting to wear your pajamas and enjoy a snack board is a major win in this tired mom’s book, haha! By the time we get our baby to sleep, our oldest daughter is SO excited about watching a movie, it’s our special time!
Movie Night Snack Boards
Creating a snack board (similar to a charcuterie or grazing board, but full of snack foods) is one of the best ways to let kids get creative in the kitchen, as a side-note! Blakely adores helping to arrange all the candies and treats – and then eating them, of course!
What are your favorite movie night snacks? You can see my family’s favorites are definitely popcorn and chocolate.
I always try to add a few healthier fruit options to our snack board in addition to the candy and popcorn. This is especially helpful if you’re having guests over with different dietary restrictions.
Movie Night Snacks
What are good snacks for a movie night?
Let’s talk about the best movie night snacks! You can choose your favorite sweet and salty movie night treats or pick a theme (a few examples down below)! Here are a few suggestions on foods to include.
- Popcorn (butter, caramel, etc)
- Pretzels (plain, yogurt covered, chocolate covered)
- Chips
- Crackers
- M&Ms
- Reese’s Cups
- KitKat Bars
- Whoppers
- Twizzlers
- Skittles
- Raisinets
- Mike & Ikes
- Milk Duds
- Sno-Caps
- Buncha Crunch
- Junior Mints
- Grapes
- Strawberries/Raspberries/Blueberries
- Cheese slices
FLAVOR TIP: Try to balance out the sweet and salty and the textures from crunchy to chewy! And be sure to include 1 or 2 healthy movie night snacks like fruit.
Ever wonder what you should bring to a movie night? A SNACK board is the best bring-a-long if you’ve been invited to a movie night party! Just be sure to use a tray or platter that’s carefully wrapped or better yet, has sides with a top (like a large container with top).
A snack board like this is also perfect for viewing parties (think Oscars, Golden Globes, Super Bowl, March Madness). There are so many reasons to make a snack board!
Themed Movie Snack Boards
It’s especially fun to pick a theme or color scheme related to the movie you’re watching. Here are a few examples below!
MOANA SNACK BOARD: Pick island-inspired treats like chocolate covered macadamia nuts, coconut, kiwi, mango etc.
FROZEN SNACK BOARD: Swap out regular candies for all blue varieties like blue jelly beans, blue and white M&Ms, blue Hershey kisses, marshmallows, etc.
WILLY WONKA & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY SNACK BOARD: Lots of chocolate, of course, but add in a hidden piece of golden paper in the popcorn and whoever finds the “golden ticket” wins a prize!

Arrange Your Snack Board
You can use any type of large tray or platter to make your movie night snack board. Heck, you can even use a cookie sheet (like a jelly roll pan that has a little side).
- Large Tray or Platter – Round Marble Tray | Large wooden tray
- Fun Party Napkins! I love these red and white striped napkins.
- Small Bowls – I love to use these to hold small items like little candies.

Hi Ann! The large board was a Homegoods find, but I’ve seen similar on Amazon, target, etc. The mini boards are from a local shop called Hot Pink in Brentwood, TN.
