How to make Chicken Nacho Wonton Cups

I originally created this recipe for a favorite olive brand that I had the chance to work with, and I’m excited to finally share them here as well!

My favorite part of this appetizer is making the wonton cups! They’re so easy. To find wonton wrappers, check the produce section at the grocery store (near egg roll wrappers and tofu).

How to Make Wonton Cups in Mini-Muffin Pan

You simply press a single wonton wrapper down into a mini-muffin pan, sprayed lightly with nonstick baking spray. Then you bake them for 5-7 minutes until lightly golden and ready for their nacho fillings!

Wonton Cup Tips

If you prefer to make these wonton cups without the pointy ends, simply use kitchen scissors to cut the points off the wonton squares before pressing them into your mini-muffin pan. This will make more traditional, rounded “cup” shapes.

You can also make these wontons in regular muffin pan size, it’ll work just fine! And you’ll end up with larger “cups” instead. They’ll just have shorter sides.

Add your chicken (or beef if you prefer) and salsa mixture and cheese into the partially-baked wonton cups and return to the oven to finish baking (full recipe below in the recipe card).

Once they come out of the oven, you’ll top with all your “nacho toppings” like sour cream, black olives, cilantro – whatever your Tex-Mex loving heart desires!

You can stuff your bite-size crispy wonton cups with anything you want! Doesn’t this open a world of possibilities for easy appetizers?! Or make them a dinner paired with a side salad or seasoned rice.

How to Make Wonton Cups in Advance

If you want to make these wonton cups in advance, the best thing to do is partially bake (or “parbake” as it’s sometimes called) the wonton cups according to the recipe instructions below, and then store them in an airtight container.

When ready, fill them with the fillings, finish baking and top with nacho toppings.
